Taming | Veterinary | Taming and Bards | Pet Commands | Taming List TamingTo tame a creature walk up to it, use your Animal Taming skill and target the creature. Not all creatures of the realm can be tamed. Of those that can be tamed, some are easier than others. Another thing that you will need to do is keep the creature fed. If you don't keep the creature fed it will go wild on you. This may not be a big deal for a horse or cow, but if your dragon goes wild you don't want to be standing in it's way. It is accepted practice to stable your pets when you aren't around. When you stable your pet you are assured your pet will get the utmost care in the world. Stabling pets, especially the dangerous ones means you do not have to begin the task of re-taming them later. The cost of stabling a pet will vary based on the pet. Dragons will cost more to stable than bunnies. If you log out with out stabling your pet or loose connection your pet will go into hiding and wait for your return. If you do not return for 30 days your pet will be deleted. Tamed and summoned creatures are like henchmen, you can only have so many. Because some creatures are more powerful than others, various creatures have different values. You may be able to run around with 9 cute bunnies hopping at your heals but may only be able to have 1 dragons running around with you. The number of pets you can have is based on your taming skill (data not available). The "pet value" is based on difficulty of taming the pet (data not available). Summoned creatures will not count against your taming points. Your magery skill will determine the number of summoned creatures you can have. Using VeterinaryThe veterinary skill is the primary offset to Animal Taming. Veterinary skill gives you a greater understanding of the creature you are trying to tame. While it does not improve your chances to actually tame the creature, it will decrease your chances of angering the creature. The last thing you want to do is anger a dragon you are trying to tame. Long is the list of tamers who have become a piece of toast because they angered a dragon while trying to tame it. The higher your veterinary skill is, the faster your healing on your pets takes effect. For every 15 points of veterinary you will reduce your healing time by 1 second. This means 60 veterinary skill will reduce your time by 4 seconds and at 100 skill you reduce the healing time by 6 seconds. The veterinary skill also allows you to determine a pets hunger. There is a discrepency with veterinary and healing; in some systems the actual healing skill is used, and in some the vet skill is used. Taming and BardsTrying to tame an angered creature takes time to calm the creature and get it to listen. If you are a bard and can pacify the creature with music you can get it to listen to you faster. This can also be effective if your animal lore doesn't prevent you from angering the creature. Provocation can also be used against the bigger creatures. For example, provoke a dragon defender on a dragon and then tame away. If you anger the dragon, run, heal and try again. Pet Commands
Add ALL to the front of the command and all of your pets with you will do that command.
Taming ListThis is a general guide only! There is a variance of about 10 skill points on most creatures. This means that at lower levels of taming you may get the chance to tame. However you will find it much more difficult and your chance of "enraging" the creature is much higher. Keeping your animal well fed is important and if you are going to ride dangerous animals you should ensure you have the appropriate food in your main backpack. If your druidry is 70 or above you will auto feed an animal that you are riding at the time, otherwise you must dismount and drop the food on the animal and it will eat. You can just drop a stack on it and it will only eat one, not the whole stack. All pets can be fed in the same manner. Example: Rodney the Ranger with 85 taming wanders into Baskerville to get himself a Nightmare. After a half hour of "enraging" the beast no end, Rodney succumbs to the Nightmare's brutalty. In comes Tania the Tamer with 100 taming, steps over Rodney's crispy body and calms and controls the creature in minutes. She waits till Rodney gets up then "transfers" the creature to him and Rodney is able to ride off into the sunset. A few days later Rodney is in town on his lovely new Nightmare that he has forgotten to feed. Suddenly, while chatting to friends, it disowns him attacking the most vulnerable target in the vicinity. Rodney tries desperately to bring the animal into order but alas just manages to yet again annoy it and with no higher skilled tamer on hand the poor critter is put down by the others gathered for the entertainment. Because the Nightmare is no longer "owned" it cannot be ressurected either.
Special Thanks go to Lord Frey for helping with the Taming list. This is still a work in progress. |
